heat loss in a building

Businesses in the UK are more worried about energy costs and supply than health and safety, legislation, and security, according to the npower Business Energy Index, published 18 July 2011.

Planning for future risks take time and man hours away from “business as usual”, and as a small business owner myself, I know how stretched resources can be.

How a bike accident led to a quick fix

My bike - fixed with Sugru

A few weeks ago I fell off my mountain bike.

I was cycling to a meeting in the centre of Brighton, and whilst attempting to take a probably illegal shortcut, I didn’t see a large pothole in front of a ramp, hit it, and flew over the top of my bike onto the road.

There’s a great series on TV at the moment: Ways to Save the Planet, Sundays 7pm on the Discovery Channel. My friend, and fellow Brighton resident, David Herman produced the series, so I urge you to watch it.

As climate change and the effects of global warming appear to be moving much faster than we thought, the only…

2009: The Energy Revolution Starts Here

Jarvis Cocker

Happy New Year! 2009 is due to be a huge year, as Obama takes office, and the world figures out how to deal with the economic and climate crises.

For me, 2008 ended with an inspiring note. On New Year’s Eve, the Today programme on Radio 4 allowed guest editor Jarvis Cocker (formerly of Pulp) to mess with the usual format. Part of his show…

Arousing browsing

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 by Nigel

The sun is shining. People are wearing shorts. People who haven’t cycled for months are out enthusiastically mowing down young children on Brighton promenade. So what am I doing stuck inside, shackled to my computer?

Peak Oil height=

It’s turning out to be a busy week. If the global financial crisis isn’t enough, last night I went to a talk about climate change and peak oil at the local Transition Town meeting.
