I’ve just realised that all the stuff I wrote before we switched over to this all-singing all-dancing Wordpress blogging site seems to have disappeared off the face of the web. I know this because I was trying to find something I wrote in it ages ago about my carbon footprint, for something I’m looking to write about carbon footprint calculators…

I know people who love to drive. I can understand that. That sense of power and motion, of eating up the miles, of seeing new landscapes from behind glass while some track plays on the stereo…

The Green Guy wrote a nice piece for The Guardian last week on using “smart meters” to shave un-needed watts off your electricity use.

I think you have to admire the musicians who’ve put their names to Live Earth. It’s not so much the committment to playing at a humungously huge world-wide gig. A twenty-minute set is hardly going to kill them. It’s the fact that by appearing there they’re opening themselves up - for the rest of their careers - to charges of hypocrisy…

We’ve just got this great solar gadget in stock. As featured in The Independent this weekend, the FreeLoader Solar Charger is “a smart eco-friendly device that soaks up the power of the sun and stores it for up to three months, meaning you can use it to charge your electronic gadgets” such as mobiles, mp3 players, pdas and more. It can also be charged from a USB port on your PC or laptop.
In the Independent it came in the top 10 best camping gear.
It compares favourably with the Solio solar charger, but costs quite a bit less.
Get yours now from Nigel’s Eco Store.

I was at a local get-together for people involved in ethical businesses the other night and I met Justin Francis there - one of the co-founders of Responsible Travel. He spent an hour telling me how they do business there, which was a) very impressive, and b) really, really useful. The Ecostore is burgeoning, but it’s a very competitive …

The Brighton Festival is coming up. One of the highlights of the fringe are the Open Houses, where people turn their houses into open galleries for three weeks in May to sell their art.
The Yellow House is a different kind of Open House. The Marshalls have created a website exclusively to show how they’ve turned their 1930s terrace into their dream eco-home…
