Organic Fortnight 2010 (3-17 September) is nearly upon us, and there are lots of ways to get involved. Head on over to the Soil Association website for details of the Organic Food Festival in Bristol, organic farm visits, fund raising dinner parties and much more.

I love organic products, they’re better for the planet, better for the people who make them, and are generally made with a bit more love. There are more and more organic alternatives, and more of us are requesting organic, in terms of what we wear, what we eat, and what we use to look after our hair and skin.

Why choose organic cotton?

The production of non-organic cotton is a miserable tale of environmental damage, loss of wildlife, health problems and spiralling debt. Third world farmers risk their own health, spend more and more money on pesticides and fertilisers to grow cotton on increasingly depleted soil, often at the expense of their children’s education. So it’s great to hear that organic cotton production is on the increase worldwide, and designers are creating modern, cool designs that will appeal to everybody, without using the 8000 or so chemicals used to make non-organic cotton.

Why choose organic skincare?

Because it’s better for the environment, and better for you. Some synthetic ingredients found in non-organic health and beauty products can enter your body through your skin, and spread through your body via the bloodstream, and accumulate after years of use. Organic skincare products can often be a better option children and babies, and also for people with sensitive skin and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, because they contain less or no synthetic ingredients.

This is certainly one of the better articles I have found on this topic. I would like to know if you have you looked into the other side of the argument of natural health? Personally, I think a good argument could be made either way, but please let me know if you know of more sites on the Internet that back up what you are saying.
