It’s Energy Saving Week…
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 by NigelIt’s Energy Saving Week - one of the biggest UK energy awareness campaigns.
This year, the theme is Waste. Melting ice caps and polar bears aside, wasting energy will increasingly hit our pockets as energy bills are due to rise by 60% this winter. Less energy means less greenhouse gas emissions and less power stations, so it’s a win-win all round.
Energy Saving week’s been broken down into 5 easy-to-relate-to themes this year:
Wasteful behaviour
Warmer homes day
Smarter driving day
Switch off/turn down/turn off day
and Buy better day.
The Energy Saving Trust has some quick tips you get you started, and if you can, ditch the car one day this week and kick up some leaves on a walk to work.
There are lots of other resources out there too: have a look at E-Day, it has some great apps to play with. Their 5 Things game shows how much money, electricity and carbon you would save if you turned off five things for an hour.
If every household in the UK switched off one 60 watt lightbulb, a digi-box, laptop, mobile phone charger and clock radio for one hour, 4.22 power stations could be turned off for 1 hour, saving £0.52 Million and 2224.89 tonnes of Co2. So small actions do mount up.
If you want to go further than switching off, try using energy saving products around the home. From energy saving appliances to better insulation, it all makes a difference. Have a look at our favourite energy saving products for some inspiration.

It amazes me how many people leave their wireless router on when the computer is off, anything i dont have one is switched off at the wall including tv,dvd etc… Its no extra hassle to put on when needed and saves money and more importantly energy!
