Coming to a bike rack near you soon…

There I was wishing Brighton would copy Paris in their public bike-hire scheme… It looks like London is already copying the French initiative.

Polly-Vous Francais
has a good guide to how the scheme works. The basic idea is that if you - as a registered user - use the bike for 30 minutes or less, it’s completely free. After that, if you don’t get it back to a Velib station, it’s a rising fee. Two Euros for the next half hour, four for the next, and so on. In other words, it’s perfect for getting around a city centre. A thirty minute ride means you can get to pretty much anywhere within a five mile radius.

From what I can gather, most users seem to like the Parisian Velibs. Anyone been on them yet?
