Arousing browsing

The sun is shining. People are wearing shorts. People who haven’t cycled for months are out enthusiastically mowing down young children on Brighton promenade. So what am I doing stuck inside, shackled to my computer? But the upside to my screen-based life is finding a few nice nuggets. Ecogeek is always worth a look, and visiting there I’m pleased to see that Magenn are about to test a prototype of their peculiar-looking blimp turbine thing, MARS, that I’ve been following. It’s such a good example of lo-fi tech; it’s an inflatable turbine that can be tethered anywhere, providing energy in emergencies, or simply used as an alternative to conventional fixed turbines.

Meanwhile, back on the carbon footprint calculators, it’s a while since I’ve done a roundup, but if you can get beyond the bombastic orchestral intro, this is a very user friendly one:

Ecological Footprint Quiz
.

Also I hadn’t visited How Can I Recycle This? for a while, but collection of tips gathering pace. Some of the suggestions are eccentric, some of them are just funny, and occasionally it’s even practical. This, for example, is their suggestion for how to reuse old washing machine drums. Nice, in a retro-modern kind of way. And a conversation piece, even without the dead parrot on top.

Thanks to Leo Reynolds for the main photo, and to Magenn for the turbine shot.
