Green habits, green visions…

Eco-Worrier puts me in mind of Thurber’s grandmother who “lived the latter years of her life in the horrible suspicion that electricity was dripping invisibly all over the house,” and went round placing electric plugs in empty sockets.

One of the new anxieties of life, at two in the morning is, “Did I leave that phone charger on?” She’d developed the routine of patrolling the house every night to switch off chargers and standby devices. I suspect she’s noting what is fast becoming one of the habits of modern living, along with putting the recycling out along with the cat.

Friends of the Earth have been running a competition for the best one-minute film highlighting environmental issues. All the entries for One Minute With Meaning are now in. The polar bear joke above is one of them. Go take a look. The final judging will be done by a panel David Puttnam and producer Andrew MacDonald, but you’re invited to vote on the entries here.
