Take a Navy shower

I was just trying to use DEFRA’s new online carbon calculator. I’d answered most of the “Your Appliances” questions, trying really hard not to cheat about the number of devices I leave on standby, when the whole thing crashed on me. I didn’t have the heart to try again. Still, it looks good. It’ll be interesting to try and see what kind of impact it has, but I suspect the most useful thing it does is make you audit your own home and your own behaviour.
“How many light bulbs do you have?”
“How many of them are energy saving light bulbs?”
“Do you dry your clothes outside in warm weather?”
“What is the average temperature of your clothes wash?”
Each question is a little nudge.
None of them, however, ask the crucial question of whether you ever take a Navy shower:

See? This is the way the internet will save the world. That works for me.
I just found this site too which might have helped in the “Your Transport” section of the DEFRA questionnaire if I’d ever got that far. Walkit.com uses Mapquest to find you easy walking routes between two places in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

another option is to share your showertime with someone else and take it in turns to lather and rinse!
