Eco friendly music

A friend just passed me a lovely CD from a local band called Mab - part of the local Sound Tank collective - yet another deserving, struggling band. The songs are nice; the packaging equally so. They wanted to do it the eco-friendly way. It cost almost twice as much to package it in carbon-neutral cardboard than it would have to put the CD in an old fashioned plastic case, but they did it. It looks good, but in the cut-throat music business where you need to spend every penny you have on promotion, that can’t have been an easy decision.
It makes me wonder how green the rest of music industry is.

Treehugger has a couple of lists of musicians with good green credentials. Gomez, Pearl Jam, Barenaked Ladies and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young are apparently among those fuelling the tour buses with biodiesel.
