Eco build given green light
Friday, February 23rd, 2007 by NigelHot on the heels of yesterday’s blog post comes this news. This eco development in Brighton’s New England Quarter by The One Planet Living organisation, which is backed by the World Wildlife fund, has just been given the planning go ahead. It has the highest eco specs of any new build in the UK. They’re trying to achieve a zero carbon strategy in construction, heating and electricity use, as well as aiming for an eventual 100% recycling target from the properties. Like a few other developments around here they’re not building car parking either, except for car club spaces. There will be green space within the building and mini-allotments on the roof. It’s also 30% affordable housing. Sadly I don’t think there was any sense of humour involved when the journalist wrote that it’s just been “given the green light”.
In other local news, Brighton’s most famous Chelsea tractor driver, Chris Eubank, was arrested outside Number 10 yesterday after driving a lorry up and down Whitehall protesting against Prince Harry being sent to Iraq. I’m sure he means well, but he’s not exactly Swampy, is he?
I’m trying to get the RSS feed sorted out. At the moment it’s not working properly but it should be up and running soon.
