Fat Bird

reuse your unwanted kitchen fat to feed birds

spacer
£3.74 inc. VAT

Ever finished cooking and wondered what to do with all that excess fat? You're not supposed to pour it down the drain, and you can't throw it into the bin. The birds in your garden would love it though, (particularly during winter) and with the Fat Bird kit it's easy to make fat cakes for them.

Quantity:

Dimensions: 150 x 60 x 70mm

Each Fat Bird kit comes with a silicon mould, the strings you'll need to hang up your feeder and a bag of seeds to make your fat cakes extra tasty for the birds.

A creatively educational tool that promotes re-use, and helps wildlife. Go on, help plump up your feathery garden visitors this year as they brace the chilly British climate.

Each kit comes with:
  • Silicon fat cake mould
  • String required to hang up your feeder in your garden
  • Bag of seeds to garnish your cakes

Dimensions
  • Box measures 15 x 6 x 7.5 cm
  • Silicon cup has a diameter of 7cm and is 6cm deep

What types of fat can I use?
  • Birds need large amounts of saturated fat like raw suet and lard, as the high energy content is vital to help them keep warm, especially during winter.
  • Lard and beef suet are great for making bird fat balls.
  • Hang your Fat Bird in a cool or shaded area, as if the fat melts it can smear onto birds feathers. High salt levels can be a problem for birds so it is advisable not to use salty fat.
  • Don't use polyunsaturated margarine or vegetable oils, they can also smear onto feathers and make them less insulating and waterproof.

Rather cute  It really works! Although we have remoulded existing bird fat 'bricks' into the mould rather than using cooking fat. A hit with the birds!    -
