Why recycle tyres?
We get through a lot of tyres, approximately one per person per year. The rubber is very durable, and lasts a long time, but once the tread on the tyres is worn out, they become illegal and must be discarded. Storing old tyres can be very hazardous, with a risk of fires and pollution. By recycling old tyres, grinding them up and turning them into a material which is a bit like leather, the pressure on landfill sites, and also the risk of pollution, is reduced.
