Sun Jar Solar Light

store sunlight in a jar!

£19.99 inc. VAT

The Sun jar is an ingenious portable solar powered light. It looks like a storage jar, but it has a solar cell, batteries and LED light under the lid - it stores sunlight in the daytime and when it gets dark the Sun Jar automatically turns itself on and glows with the day's sunshine.

Available in orange, pink or blue light, the Sun Jar will give out light for about five hours on one charge, and will work indoors or out. Perfect for a windowsill, outdoors party or night time barbeque. Makes a great gift! The Sun Jar was voted Eco Friendly Gift of Year 2007.

How it works
Just as jam jars store jam, the Sun Jar stores sunshine.

You sit the jar on your windowsill during the day, then when it gets dark the Sun Jar automatically turns itself on and glows with the day's sunshine.

Sun Jar contains a solar charging panel and low energy LED light bulb which produces a sumptuous orange or blue glow, with an auto light-sensitive on/off switch.

Features
  • Solar power cell recharges the battery.
  • Waterproof can be used indoors or outdoors.
  • 5 hours on one charge.
  • Frosted surface diffuses the light.
  • Waterproof seal.
  • Glass jar.
  • Energy efficient led light.
  • Orange, pink or blue glowing lamp, with similar brightness to a candle.
  • Automatic switch lights up automatically when gets dark.
  • Solar cell recharges internal battery

  • How to use your Sun Jar

    Automatic Switch On
  • The Sun Jar has a built-in light sensor, and switches on and off automatically when it gets dark or light. The Sun Jar MUST be in the dark to light up. It is not possible to set the jar to illuminate during daylight or in a lit room.

  • Battery
  • The Sun Jar battery needs sun to become fully charged, and your Sun Jar will probably need charging before its first use.
  • The best way to charge the battery is with the Sun Jar switched OFF; lift the metal lever to release the lid and put the switch next to the solar panel in the up position.
  • Leave your Sun Jar outside or in a sunny window in DIRECT SUNLIGHT to charge. It will require several hours and, in overcast conditions, we recommend charging for several days.
  • The Sun Jar can also charge when in auto switch on mode (switch pushed down).
  • The Sun Jar will charge - slowly - in very bright artificial light. A lamp aimed directly over the jar for a couple of hours will speed the charging process, but normal indoor electric light is not sufficient.
  • Rechargeable batteries have a long, but not indefinite, life. After many charges, the battery may lose its ability to store energy.
  • To replace the battery: Open the Sun Jar and lift out the rubber insert and solar panel. The battery is on the underside of the solar panel; remove and replace the battery with a standard AA rechargeable battery. (Never use a non-rechargeable battery in your Sun Jar).
  • You may find that in Winter, or during cloudy weather, your Sun Jar illuminates for less time than usual, flickers, or does not light up. In times of prolonged bad weather (when there is not enough natural sun to charge your Sun Jar) you can remove the battery and charge it in a normal battery charger.

  • Manual Off Switch
  • If you do not want your Sun Jar to light up when it gets dark, press the switch next to the solar panel to the OFF (up) position.
  • Switching the Sun Jar off overnight will conserve the battery life.

  • Water Resistance
  • Kilner Jars have a watertight seal, so your Sun Jar can be left outside in wet weather.
  • After a long time outside, condensation may build up in the jar. This will not damage the Sun Jar. To remove any moisture build-up, open the lid and ease out the inner workings, empty out the water and replace the inner.

Excellent!  The product does everything it says and more! The light is bright and charges well ... lasts quite long too, The product is very nicely made and strong! Taken a few knocks during parties and still works great! Much better than any solor lights i have tried before!    Ben - London

For a lovely warm glow  I love the sun jar. It has such a lovely glowing light and makes a fabulous night light    susan larkin - bury st edmunds

I love my sunjar solar light  I leave my sunjar in my kitchen window and it comes on every night with a lovely warm glow, which shines out of my window and beckons me home at night when it is dark. I live in a rural area and there are no street lights. My neighbours also love it for the same reasons, as it welcomes them home too    Susan Ash - Devon

This is a really interesting sort of novelty. After a sunny day, it glows quite brightly but I think you could probably do with two or three for serious lighting effects.    Andy - Swindon

A great product if you can capture enough sun ligh  I bought this for my daughter for Christmas knowing it would appeal to her. She absolutely loved it and has used it every night. However, with the shortage of sunlight since Christmas has meant that it has not worked very well some nights. But when it gets enough charge, it is great.    David Renard -

Warm and toasty . . .  This will bring any young eco-warrior close to tears with its eco-goodness and the wife will be in tears as well with such a romatic present-Give 'em these for xmas and you can clear off to the pub in the evening knowing that your slippers will be warming next to the wood-burner rather than in it.    Phil Cooper -

Extra browny points  Went down a storm with young and old alike ... environmentaly clever... how thoughtful ...what a romatic idea ... give any bird this one and not the blue one    Phil Cooper -
